“ I've had this place bookmarked for a while and we finally got to have a catch up double date with some good friends of ours and this place happened to be a middle point for us. I'm glad we made that call. They don't accept reservations but the wait actually wasn't too bad, for a Saturday around brunch time was a 30 min wait. There is parking on the street and a lot across the street. The place is a decent size and we got seated with high chair ready for kiddo. The wait staff is attentive and they work in teams, not just one designated person for your table. Everyone helps each other out. They have quite an extensive menu for a la carte options, what isn't on the menu is the buffet but you can ask the wait staff. It's a pretty good deal for good options, pro-rated for kiddos. The options in buffet ranged from menudo, taquitos, enchiladas, all the various proteins, fruits, bionicos. To top it off there's freshly made tortillas, tortilla chips and salsa. We all enjoyed the food and I think this would be a place we would come back to. I've already recommended it to my coworkers! ”

“ Came here to celebrate my grandmother's 89th birthday recently. Despite being a rather large party, the staff was very accommodating. This place does get very busy and after trying the food I can see why. Y'all... homemade tortillas that are sooo good!!! And the prices are very affordable! Ordered a supreme molcajete to share for two and definitely recommend this dish. They have different molcajete options so it just depends if you want more seafood, beef, or chicken. For us the supreme molcajete was more than enough food. Plenty of shrimp, cheese, nopales, steak, and chicken. Now it does come with roasted peppers, which you can either eat or take them home and make a salsa with them. The agua fresca de piña is really good. It's not overly sweet and a perfect alternative if you want a non alcoholic drink. Overall, this place has a huge variety of menu and beverage options. Very reasonable prices and most importantly the food is delicious. Definitely will be back for margaritas with my girlfriends! ”

“ Fonda Don Chon's hype is genuine and well-earned. The buffet ($17.99 - 9am to 3pm) is hot and fresh. The food selection is good-quality and delicious. I arrived Thursday (2:30PM). Shockingly, no wait. The buffet selection is delicious. I selected fish, shrimp ceviche, carnitas (shredded pork), chile verde (pork in green sauce), enchilada, beef soup, rice, and beans. The fish is thick, hot, and hearty. The pork is juicy and tender. The enchilada's cheese stretched across whenever pulled. And the beans are cooked perfectly; it's extremely satisfying. I happily devoured everything. Service is extremely quick, welcoming, and professional. Our server (Francisco) charmed the entire table. Francisco is extremely helpful! Francisco regularly checked-in on our table. Francisco earnestly answered all our questions. And Francisco helpfully, kindly updated us about the buffet's status. [Quick Note: I noticed the buffet lamps turning off around 2:50PM. That's when staff members on break began to also eat the remaining selection. If interested in the buffet, definitely arrive before then.] In addition, Fonda Don Chon is beautiful! The location's ambiance is welcoming and festive. The location is very clean; latin music plays brightly on the speaker; and the wall art is gorgeous. Overall, Fonda Don Chon is a unique and memorable experience. The buffet is an extremely good value. The food is fresh, hot, and generous. I sincerely recommend. Fantastico!!! ”

“ Oh. Mah. GAWD. That's the thought bubble that popped over my head the first time I tried this place. I can't believe I've never been here until this week! My mom and I got lucky with seating; the last time we considered going in, there was an hour-long wait to get in. And no wonder, given how good the food and service were! Within ten minutes of seating, we ordered and had our plates brought before us: my mom got enchiladas while I had my pick of the buffet bar. The next fifteen minutes were spent in near-complete silence as we struggled to shovel as much food as we could into our mouths, while simultaneously trying to savor it slowly, because we wanted that much to enjoy every last bite! My mom loved this place so much that she brought my dad two days later. The text she sent me read, "Your dad is happy," followed by a photo of him enjoying his red snapper. (And my dad can be a grumpy man when it comes to eating at restaurants, so this is probably the highest compliment when it comes to food.) Mark my words: we'll be back! ”

“ Stopped by for a margarita happy hour - it was excellent! Had some chips and the salsa was very mild but tasty. The food menu looks very extensive -- will have to return to try them for lunch or dinner. Prices are reasonable and the plates I saw being served to other tables were substantial. Plenty of street parking available, as well as a lot across the lane. The wait staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Will definitely be back soon. ”

“ Outside: They have a very nice outdoor patio area with heaters and lots of tables!! Inside: It's pretty big in there, 2 different rooms. It's cute in here too! They do have public restrooms. Food: We all got the brunch buffet. And oh my gosh it's soo good! We loved everything that we tried and we are totally going to go back. They have a lot of different options and they constantly were cleaning and refilling the food! The buffet is soo worth it! Service: Our server was so sweet, he stayed on top in the drinks. All the other servers looks great too! ”

“ It's been a long time since I last visited and I was reminded of how much I love this place. We had a short wait during the lunch hour so beware of planning to go at that time. Ambiance is warm and inviting, but loud, more fun to enjoy with a group. Menu is vast and you had the option to choose between menu items or a lunch buffet. I ordered the mole enchiladas, which is a typical go to for me if I see them on the menu. Great service, food came out quickly and was delicious. ”

“ Iconic establishment known for their lunch buffets (not sure of their current price per person, but back in the day, it was the most economical Mexican buffet around the area) Here are a few things you should know 1- Parking available on street or in Shopping Mall parking lot 2- No reservations, you get there put your name on the list and they'll see you as soon as a table is available 3- All diners must be present before getting seated 4- Better know what you want if you are dining off the menu and not their buffet 5- The servers seem apt to please so you could ask for a reasonable change to the menu dishes I am a visitor to the Covina community and I am grateful to Elite Vince V and Niki S for introducing me to this place.
